During an extended missions trip in 2013, God began to reveal to Machal her gift for writing and – frankly – that she had a lot to say. The concept for began shortly after this.
A Laid Down Lover is one who lays down everything in pursuit of Christ. The two great commandments in the New Testament are simple:
1. Love the Lord your God with ALL of your heart, soul, and mind. (Matt. 22:37)
2. Love your neighbor as yourself. (Matt 22:39)
A true Laid Down Lover is one who takes these commandments to heart and will do everything they can to love God and love others well. This doesn’t imply perfectionism, but rather a heart that desires to truly follow after God (1 Samuel 16:7). It’s a person who will give up some of the pleasures of the world to please the King of Kings, and who has a radical abandonment and willingness to say yes when He calls.
Machal was married in May 2013 to her husband, Rakeem Brewington after he relentlessly pursued her for three years. Since the day they said “I do,” they’ve seen amazing blessings that many others could only hope for. They’ve also experienced real life situations such as loss, grief, and the normal arguments any marriage faces. So, what makes their marriage different? They set a resolve in their hearts to never give up on each other and to make their marriage stronger each and every day.
Living a Christian lifestyle isn’t always easy in a culture where everything tells us to be self-absorbed, guarded and materialistic. We’re constantly told we need more – more money, more good looks, more relationships, more everything. Everyday Christianity teaches us how to tackle real issues of life through a Biblical perspective – one that challenges the loud voices of society and looks to the Word for the Truth.
After working with trafficked girls in Africa, Machal’s heart was open to the depth of human suffering. Rather than helping others through prayer and love alone, she decided to work toward becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. She received her Bachelor’s Degree and plans to continue her education in trauma and grief counseling. Everyday she works to further her understanding of the human mind and has a fond love for the science of psychology.
Machal has travelled to over a dozen countries preaching the message of the gospel. Her favorite thing to do: Sit in the dirt with the local people to learn their culture and their ways. Modern Missions is about the lessons learned through real life experience on the missions field. It seeks to help young missionaries learn if they’re ready to be sent, to help seasoned missionaries through refreshing and support, and to charge those who aren’t called to missions to be the greatest supporters of the end-time missions movement.
In her lifetime, Machal has experienced several traumas. These include abusive relationships, rape, alcohol abuse and more. Healing and Wholeness offers personal reflections, advice and support for those who desire healing in their own lives. It’s meant to expose Satan’s grasp on broken ones and to bring healing to hearts that are longing for change.
